Hannah Slater

For pianist Hannah Slater (Berklee College of Music), Music Therapy has merged her passion for music and her compassion for people.

In 2009 Hannah was accepted to Berklee College of Music with the North American scholarship for piano. Hannah studied Music Therapy, received the department's Academic Achievement Award in 2010. While in Boston, she taught group and private piano lessons for New Generation Music Academy, Co-Directed the international music education organization Beyond Borders and ran music ed./therapy programs in 3 juvenile detention centers through Genuine Voices. Hannah has been working with Phoenix Conservatory of Music since returning to Arizona in January and is working on completing her internship for Music Therapy.

Over the past several years Hannah has worked with diverse populations from Juvenile Delinquents to individuals with Autism.

Now employed at the ground-breaking clinic Neurologic Music Therapy Services of Arizona with Suzanne Oliver MT- BC, NMT Fellow, she is practicing as a Certified Neurologic Music Therapist, and working as a Clinical Development Specialist, promoting Music Therapy throughout Phoenix Arizona.

Hannah has presented at various conferences including Passages Music Therapy Conference in Boston Massachusetts, the New England Region of the American Music Therapy Association Conference.

Hannah is a passionate advocate for increasing awareness of Music Therapy, its impact, and its potential.

Hannah looks forward to building bridges across communities and cultures to increase potential growth of Music Therapy, increasing the quality of life, worldwide.

Originating from Flagstaff, Hannah graduated from Berklee College of Music, Boston, December of 2011 after completing classwork in various settings including special education classrooms, children's hospitals, juvenile detention, geriatrics, and a psychiatric ward. After seven months providing habilitation, in-home care giving, and teaching at phoenix conservatory of music, she transitioned to Neurologic Music Therapy Services of Arizona and received Neurologic Music Therapy Advanced Level Certification in Colorado and was certified by the National Certification Board for Music Therapists.

Conducted therapy for caseloads of 30 clients with diverse neurologic disabilities to improve movement, communication and cognitive abilities. Teacher of music lessons for individuals with disabilities and disease of all ages for piano, voice, and beginner drum set.

ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR - BEYOND BORDERS, BOSTON MA, 2009 - 2012"

Co-founded organization to promote music/art education in Monte Cristi Dominican Republic. Co-led 3 teams of professors to teach music and arts in Monti Cristi: fundraising (grant writing/events), curriculum development, and implementation. Received the Music and Social Change Grant in 2010 and the Berklee Student Activities Grant in 2011.

Featured on KISS Radio, Local Boston and Monti Cristi TV, and the Berklee's Unsung Hero's Breakfast in 2009 and 2010.
